ABSIEC Fixes Abia LG Polls For November 2

The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has fixed November 2 for Local Government elections.

This was revealed on Friday by the commission.

It also outlined key dates and activities leading up to the elections.

The election will mark a pivotal moment for grassroots governance in Abia State, as political parties prepare to field their candidates across the local government areas.

The timetable details crucial steps for the election to include:

Notice of Election:
Saturday, 21st September 2024

Political Party Primaries:
Tuesday, 24th September – Wednesday, 2nd October 2024

Submission of Candidates by Political Parties:
Friday, 4th October – Sunday, 6th October 2024

Screening of Candidates by ABSIEC:
Monday, 7th October – Wednesday, 9th October 2024

Hearing of Appeals/Complaints by Screening Committee:
Thursday, 10th October – Friday, 11th October 2024q

Substitution and Screening of Substituted Candidates:
Sunday, 13th October – Monday, 14th October 2024

Final Publication of Candidate List:
Tuesday, 15th October – Wednesday, 16th October 2024

Electioneering Campaigns:
Thursday, 17th October – Thursday, 31st October 2024

Notice of Polls:
Friday, 18th October 2024

Local Government Elections:
Saturday, 2nd November 2024

Run-off Elections (if applicable):
Sunday, 3rd November 2024

With political activity heating up across the state, all eyes are on the upcoming primaries, which will determine the candidates contesting in the election.

The electoral body has emphasized its commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process, and has urged all political parties and candidates to adhere to the guidelines set out in the timetable.
