Abia Warriors Will Make Nigeria Proud In CAF Confederation Cup – Coach

Abia Warriors coach Imama Amapakabo has revealed that the club will represent Nigeria with pride in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The club will be representing Nigeria in either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup, as they are set for a top-three finish with one match to go.

Imama has outlined the club’s plans to bolster the team to ensure they make Nigeria proud on the continent.

He said, “No team is ever truly complete—every team needs reinforcements. We’ll be competing at a level different from what we’re used to, so it’s essential to bolster the team with new players.

“We’ll make key additions, plan ambitiously, and begin preparations immediately. There’s no time to rest—it’s time to get serious. We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and now we must build on it.”

Imama showered encomiums on the club’s management, led by former Flying Eagles coach John Obuh.

He said, “When he called and said he needed me to come back to support and help the team, I couldn’t say no.

“Since returning, the working environment has been great. I’ve had the freedom I need as a coach, with no interference in team selection or tactics. The success or failure of the team ultimately rests on my shoulders, and I appreciate that the management trusts me to do the job.”

Imama was appointed as Abia Warriors coach for his second spell, having previously managed the team during the 2020/21 season.

He led Enugu Rangers to the Nigeria Premier Football League title in 2016.

Abia Warriors will be playing on the continent for the first time in their history after missing out last season when they lost in the Federation Cup final to El Kanemi Warriors.
