The Abia State Government has confirmed that workers across all sectors will begin receiving the newly approved minimum wage starting in October.

This was announced on Monday by Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, during a media briefing following the State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu explained that the new wage structure will benefit “every category of workers,” ensuring fair distribution of the updated salaries throughout the workforce.

In a bid to improve the state’s judicial system, Kanu also revealed plans to construct court halls in all 17 local government areas, aimed at boosting the administration of justice.

Further, the commissioner highlighted a forthcoming health initiative, announcing that the Ministry of Health will conduct a free medical outreach in Ugwunnagbo next week. The program will include “free consultations, maternal and child health services, and diagnostic tests,” all at no cost to residents.

Kanu also touched on Governor Otti’s commitment to supporting athletes, revealing plans to honor para-athletes who have made the state proud. Among them are Miss Onyinyechi Mark, who secured a gold medal in the 61 kg category, and Miss Esther Nworgu, who earned a silver medal in the 41 kg category.
