Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe

The Lawmaker representing the good people of Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi has spoken to THE WHISTLER on an age long border conflict between the people of Ezeukwu in Bende North State Constituency and the communities of Ndi Obasi, Ndi Onugbo and Ndi Obilagu all in Ivo Local Government of Ebonyi State.

He revealed that he has sponsored a petition to the Abia House Of Assembly regarding the issue.

Speaking with THE WHISTLER on Wednesday, Ibekwe said that the conflict has gotten to a stage where there has been destruction of farmlands, farm produce and human lives.

“I think the pursuit of peace is a very welcome development for the people of Ezeukwu to follow the peace procedure through this petition to the State House of Assembly.

“The House of Assembly has decided to subject the matter to a committee that will liaise with the Deputy Governor to find a lasting solution”, He said.

He went further to speak on the economic development in the state, stating that Abia State is gradually becoming an industrial hub, with indigenous automobile manufacturers setting up plants in the
state.

“The state has always been an economic hub, but lost its vibe due to administrative amnesia.

“The current administration’s efforts to develop infrastructure and ensure security have helped to sustain the state’s economic momentum”, Ibekwe said.

Speaking on his Legislative Interventions in his constituency, the lawmaker made THE WHISTLER understand that he has facilitated the establishment of an ICT center, which has been approved by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

“The center has 275 laptops and 24-hour solar power, providing internet access and training opportunities for the community” He said.

The lawmaker has also initiated training programs for artisans and home economics for women and has sensitized the community to the potential of agricultural value chains, leading to investments in agriculture along major roads.

He cited China’s success in agriculture, generating $500 billion in revenue in 2003, an example of the potential for agricultural development in Abia State.
