Abia Govt vows to penalize corrupt civil servants

The Abia State Government has warned civil servants who have made theft and corrupt practices their means of survival to change or face the consequences.

This comes as the state government has provided a phone number and email address for stakeholders to report any unethical behaviours to the authorities.

Addressing civil servants in Umuahia, the Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere, said the Abia State Government is resolute in combating corruption and upholding ethical standards within the civil service.

Ojeikere, who noted that pervasive theft and fraudulent activities have created a negative perception of the public service, charged workers to eliminate these practices in order to restore the dignity and credibility of the civil service.

He urged the workers to prioritise discipline, personal drive, and a commitment to excellence in their duties, and encouraged them to make sacrifices and focus on adding value to their roles rather than pursuing personal or financial gains.

The Abia Head of Service charged workers to strictly comply with the new government operational procedures, adding that acts of sabotage against its policies and programmes will not be condoned.

Ojeikere, who further urged civil servants to adopt a positive mindset and reflect on their conduct, called on public service stakeholders to report unethical behaviours in the service via mobile number 0802 700 0051 or by email.
