The Abia State Government has appealed to churches across the state to sensitize their members on the forthcoming nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise being organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Abia State Chapter, the Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Religious Affairs, Apostle Kenneth Wiper, disclosed that the registration exercise will commence online on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will follow on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Apostle Wiper explained that the exercise provides an opportunity for eligible citizens to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He urged the church to take an active role in mobilizing worshippers for the exercise, stressing that every eligible citizen must be armed with their PVC to make their voices count where it matters most.

According to him, those expected to participate in the exercise include: Youths who were underaged during the last registration but will be eligible by 2027, Those who did not register previously, Persons who lost their voter cards, Individuals with damaged voter cards, Voters seeking to transfer or update their details.

He emphasized that church leaders should make announcements in their local congregations and encourage members to participate actively in the process.

Expressing confidence that the message would be treated with urgency, Apostle Wiper reminded the Christian community of their civic responsibility, drawing reference from the biblical injunction that “the government shall be upon His shoulder (Isaiah 9:6).”
