Abia Govt Makes Igbo Language Compulsory In Schools
Abia State Government has insisted that Igbo Language remains compulsory in basic and post-basic schools.
The Governor who revealed this in a programme to celebrate the International Mother Language Day in Umuahia, by the Igbo Women Assembly, said the measure aims to encourage younger generations to take pride in their heritage.
Governor Otti, represented by the commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Matt Ekwuribe urged parents, stakeholders, and schools to support this effort, which aligns with the global celebration of linguistic and cultural diversity.
The International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity.
