Abia Govt Flags-Off 2025 National Immunisation Campaign
The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscillia Otti, has launched the 2025 National Immunisation Plus Days campaign at Aba Town Hall, emphasising disease prevention over treatment.
Mrs Otti, who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Adaeze Emetu, urged mothers to participate in the immunisation exercise and encouraged leaders across the 17 local government areas in the state to support the effort to eradicate polio.
The First Lady expressed gratitude to the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and the Federal Government for their collaboration in this war against poliomyelitis.
The Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Anyanwu, expressed gratitude through his Deputy, Hon. Martins Azubuike Nwankwo, to the Governor’s choice of Aba South as the host local government.
He assured Ndi Aba South that the immunisation programme will be effectively implemented while encouraging nursing mothers to make their children available for this exercise.
“Effective implementation will lead to an improved immunisation rate, and this will improve healthy living in our communities,” the chairman declared.
The mayor’s gratitude and assurance reflect his commitment to community health.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Kalu Ulu Kalu, highlighted the importance of eradicating poliomyelitis in our state, as well as addressing parental fears about the vaccination.
He encouraged parents and other health givers to always support the government’s health policies, as they aim to promote the health needs of our people.
Dr Kalu also commended the efforts of the Governor Otti-led administration for the giant strides in the health sector, reiterating the government’s efforts in building and equipping primary health care centres across local government areas in the state.
He emphasised the need for the people to partner with the government in their developmental efforts across the state.
In her response, the Aba South Health Authority Secretary, Mrs Uchechi Enyinnaya, commended Governor Alex Otti in the health sector, describing his administration as a divine intervention.
She assured the government of their readiness to pursue the initiative and achieve the desired result while thanking everyone for being part of the event.
She described Governor Otti’s administration as a “divine intervention”, underscoring the positive impact his leadership has on Abians.
Addressing the press, the wife of the mayor of Aba South, Mrs. Anyanwu Akudo Precious, commended the state government and the leadership of Aba South for their collaboration in choosing Aba South Local Government as the host local government, reiterating its strategic importance.
She also thanked Mrs Otti for all her efforts in the primary health sector, encouraging nursing mothers to seize the opportunity to eradicate poliomyelitis in the state.
She pledged her willingness and that of other women in Aba South L.G.A. to ensure that the exercise is well implemented.
