Abia government agency denies assaulting private radio, TV staff
The Greater Aba Development Authority, GADA, has accused the owner of Enyimba TV and Radio station of reopening a sealed illegal building inside the station’s premises, stating that the structure was unsealed without any known court order.
In a statement by Chibuzo Amaechi, Head of Information Unit/PRO, GADA also said it carried out the sealing of the building on August 12, 2025, without assaulting, harassing, or arresting anyone.
The agency said that a court order had directed all parties to maintain the status quo, which it obeyed by not visiting the site of the illegal buildings for three months.
GADA stated that it became aware the owner of the property had unlawfully unsealed it and resumed construction works, prompting the agency to report the matter to the police.
“This operation was carried out peacefully, with no incidents of assault, harassment, or arrest. The Management of GADA reiterates that this action is not a witch-hunt against any individual or organisation,” GADA explained.
However, the management of Enyimba FM and TV Limited, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the peace at its station was disrupted at about 11 am by stern-looking unidentified men who allegedly arrived in six buses.
The media station, which condemned the actions of GADA officials, said a court order from Suit No. A/137/2025 by an Abia State High Court on July 29 in the matter was disobeyed.
