Abia First Lady Takes Action Against Drug Addiction, Rehabilitates Young Woman

The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has intervened to rescue and rehabilitate Miss Glory Benjamin, a young woman suffering from a drug-induced mental crisis.

Her condition, which went viral on social media after she was found wandering the streets of Asaba, Delta State, was Spotted by Mrs. Otti.

Mrs. Otti upon learning that the young woman is from Abia, immediately contacted the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Chidi Nnadi, to facilitate her rescue.

Following a medical assessment, in which doctors confirmed that Benjamin had been battling addiction to methamphetamine, cannabis, and cigarettes, Mrs. Otti on Tuesday, arranged for her immediate admission into a rehabilitation center in Aba and personally took responsibility for the cost of her treatment.

The NDLEA Commander, Nnadi, revealed that 40 individuals are currently undergoing rehabilitation in the state, while 60 others are awaiting admission.

He also confirmed that 40 drug traffickers have been successfully prosecuted, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action against drug abuse.

Mrs. Otti, who chairs the Abia State Drug Control Committee, has been leading efforts to combat drug addiction in the state.

The Abia State Government, Under her leadership, recently established an additional drug treatment and rehabilitation center in Umuahia to expand support for individuals struggling with addiction.

Commenting on the intervention, Mrs. Otti said, “Drug addiction is a growing crisis that affects not just the individual but families and communities.

“We must do more to help those struggling with it and prevent others from falling into the same situation.”

At the rehabilitation center, two recovering patients shared their experiences, highlighting how structured support has helped them regain control of their lives.

Mrs. Otti reaffirmed that the state government is committed to addressing drug addiction and providing rehabilitation services to affected individuals.
