Abia First Lady Pledges More Investment In Education

Abia State Firstady, Mrs Priscilla Otti has pledged that the state will deepen investments in education to attain excellence.

She said the state is commited to promoting academic excellence and leadership among students, recognizing the pivotal role education plays in shaping the future of young generations.

This was stated by the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, during the grand finale of the 2024/2025 School Debate Competition (14th edition) held in Umuahia on Tuesday.

The debate competition, organized by Vision Africa in collaboration with the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, brought together 12 schools, with the theme ‘Is Social Media Impactful to Teenagers?’.

Mrs. Otti, represented by the SSA to the Governor on Environment, Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere, highlighted the importance of education in shaping the future of young people.

“The Abia State Government remains dedicated to investing in education, empowering our educators, and creating an enabling environment for our students to thrive,” Mrs. Otti said, emphasizing the administration’s broader agenda to strengthen education while protecting children’s rights in the state.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, appreciated the President of Vision Africa International, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, for initiating and sustaining the debate platform for over 14 years.

“The Otti-led administration is committed to empowering young people to realize their full potentials,” Elder Ubochi said, represented by the Director of Scholarship in the Ministry, Lady Stella Kelechi.

Bishop Onuoha, President and founder of Vision Africa Radio, emphasized the organization’s commitment to shaping responsible men and women who would lead in all spheres of society.

“We are helping the state set a blueprint for youth development that could be replicated nationwide,” he said, announcing that he would sponsor the WAEC registration fees for three students from each of the four schools that made it to the finals.

Methodist Girls High School Umuahia emerged as the first prize winner, while other winners took home medals and educational prizes.
