The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, even as security agencies intensify investigations into the recent killing of a businessman from Arochukwu.

Speaking after the State Security Council meeting on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commodore MacDonald Ubah (rtd), described the meeting as a proactive step towards sustaining law and order in the state.

“This is a monthly meeting that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia State, normally holds. It is in furtherance of all the security measures that have so far been emplaced that is securing Abia State as it is,” Ubah stated.

His remarks come amid heightened concerns following the murder of an Arochukwu businessman while returning to the state.

Addressing the matter, Ubah assured that security agencies were actively investigating the incident.

“All hands are on deck to unravel that incident, and investigations are ongoing. Whenever we have results, it will be made public,” he said.

Echoing Ubah’s stance, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Isa, highlighted the importance of the meeting in evaluating the security situation in the state.

“As you witnessed, with the special operations that we carried out both in Aba, Umuahia, and all area councils, we had relative peace. People came in for Christmas and New Year celebrations, and there was relative peace,” CP Isa noted.

He emphasised that the police would continue collaborating with other security agencies to maintain stability across the state.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement as efforts to safeguard Abia intensified.
