Abia community raises alarm over proliferation of motor parks, lawlessness
The Ebem Ohafia community in Ohafia LGA of Abia State has raised the alarm on the increasing number of motor parks and the lawlessness it is constituting to the security of the community.
To prevent violence and acrimony, the community has resolved that no two motor parks operating the same routes should exist within 500 metres from each other.
This was contained in a communique released after an emergency meeting held at Ebem Ujurueze Palace, where it was decided that all parties involved in motor park disputes must abide by the decision of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders in accordance with Ebem customs.
Signed by the Paramount ruler of Ebem Ohafia ancient kingdom, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, Emeka Mba, President General of Ebem Ohafia Development Union, Ifeanyi Okali, the PRO and others, among others, the community recognized the authority of the Abia State government approve motor parks.
The communique directed indigenes and residents in the community to always report disputes to the Council of Chiefs and Elders, and not resorting to fetish means of settlements.
it warned that defaulters will pay ₦500,000 as a deterrence to others and a Life Oath (Igba Ndu) shall be administered between the involving parties.
The meeting condemned destruction of property and disregard for traditional observances through misuse of cultural instruments such as Akang.
It also banned cultism, gangsterism and drug abuse in the parks.
The community warned against any attempt to bring back individuals that were banished for criminals acts, even as it said that those banished from other communities should not be allowed to settle in Ebem.
