The Abia State Government has commended the members of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) for its sustained contributions to eye care and vision health in Nigeria.

Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of Governor Alex Otti at the 48th National Conference and Vision Expo at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, the Secretary to the Abia State Government Prof. Kenneth Kalu congratulated the Association described the conference theme, “Optometry in a Changing World: Adapting to Emerging Trends,” as timely and relevant in addressing the evolving demands of global healthcare delivery.

He further applauded the NOA for choosing Abia State as host, acknowledging the economic and professional impact of the conference on the state.

He assured the Association of the government’s continued support and collaboration in enhancing public health services, especially in eye care.

Speaking at the event, the National President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr. Anderson Chimeziri, said the conference serves as a strategic platform for eye care professionals to “review current practices, share innovations, and chart a course for adapting to modern trends” in global optometry.

He emphasized that in an age of rapid technological change, optometrists must continuously evolve to meet the growing demands of patients and healthcare systems.

The event attracted the presence of the Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emmanuel Emereuwa, Commissioner for information, Prince Okay Kanu and delegates from across Nigeria and featured scientific presentations, exhibitions, and expert discussions on innovations and best practices in optometry.
