Abia Assembly Urges Gov’t Action On Erosion, Boundary Dispute
The Abia State House of Assembly has taken steps to address pressing issues affecting communities in the state.
During the plenary session on Tuesday, Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi (Bende North) presented a matter of urgent public importance regarding erosion sites in the Item Development Association’s community.
The House Committee on Environment has been tasked to investigate the matter and report back within two weeks.
“We urge the government to intervene urgently in addressing the erosion sites in our community,” the Item Development Association appealed.
In another development, the House Committee on Security and Boundary Matters presented a report on a petition titled “From Gradual Process of Decimation to Genocide” concerning a boundary dispute between Ezeogwu Village in Igiriukwu Autonomous Community and Umuakali Village in Omuma, Rivers State.
The report was adopted as a working document and committed to the House Committee of the Whole for further action.
The House also considered the report of its Joint Committee on Education, Public Petition, and Judiciary regarding the alleged disguised takeover of Government College Umuahia by certain vested interests.
THE WHISTLER reports that the committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to guide further legislative actions.
The House adjourned its plenary session to June 17, 2025, and will reconvene at 10:00 am.
