9th NYG: Yobe contingent departs Damaturu, eyes gold
Yobe State sports contingent has departed Damaturu to participate in the National Youth Games, scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State.
Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday charged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the state and exhibit good behavior throughout the tournament.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Mohammed Balumi, the Governor also urged the athletes to justify the confidence reposed in them by the state.
“We urge you to be victorious in all the events the state is participating in,” he tasked.
The team captain, Mohammed Haruna, assured the Governor that they would be of good behavior as ambassadors of the state and sought prayers for their safe trips and victory at the national event.
The 9th National Youth Games is scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State, between August 29 and September 6, 2025.
Thirty-six states and the FCT are expected to participate in over 37 sports disciplines, including athletics, football, basketball, and more, designed to promote unity and discipline through sports.
The Yobe and Borno State teams will represent the Northeast region at the National Youth Games, having emerged victorious at the zonal elimination games held in Gombe, Gombe State, recently.
