A public affairs analyst and popular journalist, Comrade Bashiru, has explained that the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress cannot unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election without the party’s only House of Representatives, lawmaker, Leke Abejide.
Bashiru disclosed this in a briefing in Abuja at the weekend.
According to him, Abejide, who is the chairman of the Committee on Customs and Exercise at the 10th Nigeria’s National Assembly, should be carried along in the party’s dealings.
He warned that such exclusion of Abejide from the party’s scheme of things would not only fuel internal crises but could also result in the complete collapse of the coalition.
“Consequently, it is imperative to categorically state that all efforts, time, and resources committed to the coalition are futile in the absence of Hon. Leke,” he added.
This comes as the opposition coalition under ADC picked the former Nigerian Senate President, David Mark, as interim chairman in a push to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Political heavyweights such as Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and the ex-governors of Kaduna and Rivers, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, and others have adopted ADC.
However, ADC party members, including its presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Dumebi Kachikwu, have rejected the David Mark-led interim leadership.
