2027: Niger SDP denies merger with ADC

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Niger State, Yakubu Yerima, has dismissed alleged merger with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), assuring that the SDP remains a credible and formidable opposition party in the state.

The emergence of ‘SDP for ADC Coalition’ was announced after a meeting in Minna in a communique signed by the faction’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Luqma Hussaini.

The defected members of the party expressed their determination to support the ADC in challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to them, “These times do not call for sloganeering, self-congratulation, or political vanity; they demand collective sacrifice, sober reflection, and unified action.”

The communique also stated the coalition’s intention to engage with other political stakeholders across various parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to establish a broad-based leadership structure within Niger State.

However, the SDP chairman in a statement titled ‘DISCLAIMER’, dismissed any merger with another party, describing the new faction as comprised of “faceless people”.

Yerima called on all bonafide members to disregard rumours of defections insisting that no registered member has left the party.

“I urge members to disregard rumours of defections, no registered member has left the party. The party remains a credible and formidable opposition party,” he stated.
