2027 Election Will Be Suffering Masses Against APC – Dalung Warns
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), that the 2027 general elections will be “a battle between the suffering masses and their tormentors.”
In a statement he sent to THE WHISTLER on Saturday, Dalung compared the current economic hardship under the Tinubu administration to the final days of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government in 2015, drawing chilling parallels in what he describes as history “repeating itself with frightening accuracy.”
He said, “No president in Nigeria’s history received more public endorsements than Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015. Governors, senators, traditional rulers, and billionaire businessmen all rallied around him.
“But it was all a bubble. The people spoke, and they threw him out. That same moment is approaching again,” Dalung declared.
According to him, the 2015 election was lost not because of a weak campaign but because of the “arrogance of power and deliberate neglect of the people’s suffering.”
He alleged that despite Jonathan’s vast campaign resources and strategic delays, the election was ultimately decided by a frustrated populace who had endured unchecked insecurity and poor governance.
“The North was mobilized and determined to vote Jonathan out, regardless of the obstacles. That is where Nigeria is again today,” he said.
Dalung accused the Tinubu administration of failing to read the mood of the nation, noting that many Nigerians are battling extreme economic hardship, insecurity, and inflation, yet the presidency remains “deaf to the cries of the masses.”
He noted, “This is not about APC versus PDP or any other political party,” he warned. “2027 will be the people versus the system that has impoverished and ignored them.”
Referring to the infamous $2.1 billion arms procurement scandal under Jonathan—allegedly diverted to fund his reelection—Dalung cautioned against using public funds for political gain.
“The ghosts of Dasuki and the arms fund still haunt Nigeria. We must not walk that road again. We must not allow our democracy to be auctioned for dollars and patronage.”
Jonathan denied he had anything to do with the arms fund.
He also ridiculed the increasing number of public endorsements for Tinubu’s second term, likening them to a similar “charade” that surrounded Jonathan before his electoral defeat.
“Endorsements do not win elections. They are a smokescreen. What wins elections is trust, and right now, Nigerians are disillusioned.”
Quoting former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dalung said,“Postponing the funeral doesn’t wake the dead. You’re only delaying the burial,” with reference to Johnathan government postponement of the 2015 elections for some weeks.
Dalung said, “That statement rings louder today,” adding, “Tinubu’s government may still be in office, but politically, it is already dead in the hearts of Nigerians.”
