2027: ADC unveils Borno chapter, vows to challenge APC dominance
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has launched its Borno State chapter, pledging to provide robust opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The convener of the movement in the state, Sheriff Banki, made the disclosure during the unveiling event held Thursday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Banki accused the APC of stifling dissent and suppressing opposition voices across the state.
“Borno is in dire need of opposition parties. As far as we are concerned, there is no opposition in the state,” he said. “But starting from today, with the unveiling of this ADC, there will be strong opposition that can hold the government accountable and ensure proper checks and balances.”
He said the ADC’s entry into Borno aligns with a broader national coalition movement aimed at resisting control or influence from the APC, and described the coalition as a platform for credible alternative leadership.
The movement, according to him, will support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027, adding that members are committed to a unified front.
“We can win. What has always held us back is manipulation both from within and outside the opposition. With commitment and courage, we can challenge the system and succeed,” he said.
Banki listed several defectors and political actors who have joined ADC in the state, including former governorship aspirants under the NNPP, former treasurers and secretaries of the PDP, ex-House of Assembly members, and other stakeholders.
