2026: PDP will retake Ekiti, ADC poses no threat – Guber aspirant

A prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State and governorship aspirant, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun, has dismissed speculation that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is poised to hijack the PDP’s political structure in the state.

She expressed confidence that those defecting to the ADC will eventually return to the PDP fold.

Speaking on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti during a strategic meeting with her supporters from all three senatorial districts at her campaign office, Ogun insisted that the ADC poses no real threat to the PDP’s chances of reclaiming power in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Ogun, a former Commissioner for Works in Ekiti State, said the internal crisis within the PDP had been largely resolved, particularly regarding the contentious position of the National Secretary, where Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been affirmed to continue in office.

“I’m not worried because every organisation experiences internal challenges,” Ogun said when asked about the recent PDP crisis.

“What matters is how those issues are managed. The National Working Committee, NWC, is united now, and major disputes, including the one involving the national secretary, have been addressed.

“This unity is helping resolve state-level issues like the delayed congresses,” she added.

She expressed optimism that the lingering disputes in Ekiti State would soon be concluded and clarified that the resolution process does not conflict with the timetable for party primaries already released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Ogun appealed to party members to remain steadfast and loyal, assuring them that the PDP remains a viable political force in Ekiti.

“I have spent the past two years engaging in consultations, reconciliation efforts, and grassroots mobilisation across all wards and communities.

“By God’s grace, I am confident of clinching the PDP ticket and leading our party to victory in 2026. I believe that by this time next year, I will be serving as the governor of Ekiti State,” she stated.

On the emergence of the ADC as an alternative political platform, Ogun downplayed its significance, describing it as a late and inconsequential entrant into the political scene.

“We are only a few months away from the primaries and the election. Anyone thinking a new party like the ADC can suddenly gain traction in Ekiti is not being realistic.

“The PDP remains alive and active. What you see today are grassroots loyalists, committed people who continue to work in their wards,” she said.

Reaffirming her commitment, Ogun declared: “I’m pushing this journey to the very end. I will win the party’s ticket, and I will win the election come 2026.”
