The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested a 34-year-old man, Oluwabunmi Anifowose, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area.

The corps commander, Brigadier General Olu Adewa, in a statement on Sunday, revealed that the suspect was apprehended on Saturday in a hideout in ljebu-jesha, Osun State, where he had fled in an attempt to evade arrest.

Adewa stated that the operation was based on intelligence gathered by Amotekun operatives.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Communications for the Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, the victim was sent on an errand to purchase fufu when the suspect allegedly accosted and raped her.

Brigadier General Adewa noted, “The suspect was arrested in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he was hiding himself in the midst of his colleagues who were suspected to be cult members.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police at Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action.”

In a separate operation, Adeleye stated that the Amotekun operatives on the same day in Ikole Ekiti apprehended two people, 30-year-old Usman Sheidu and 32-year-old Olalekan Aluko, a gateman, for allegedly stealing an iron door in the Oke-Ijebu Agege area of Ikole Local Government Area.

“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to committing the crime. They have since been handed over to the Divisional Police in Ikole Ekiti for further profiling and investigation,” Adewa said.

He reiterated the corps’ commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property: “There is no hiding place for criminals in Ekiti State. We urge residents to come forward with information that can assist security agencies, including Amotekun, in apprehending suspects and preventing criminal activities.”
