As Edo State continued to experience heavy downpour, a 12-year-old boy, Nathan Paul Spencer, was killed by a ravaging flood in Benin while going for the Middle Basic Assessment Examinations in the state.

The pupil was said to be going to Liberty Secondary School, located in Uselu, Egor Local Government Area, where he was registered for the examination, also known as the First School Leaving Certificate examination.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was a pupil of Future Leaders Academy in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, was registered to write the examination at Liberty Secondary School by the management of the former.

A viral video of the incident showed a young man carrying the deceased on his shoulder, with passers-by urging him to take the young boy to a nearby hospital.

The passers-by also blamed the parents for allowing the deceased to go alone to the examination centre.

The deceased and his mother, whose name was given as Latifat, were said to be walking home after school hours at about 2 p.m. when they slipped into the open drainage.

The late Segun was scheduled for a graduation ceremony to Primary One next before the unfortunate incident happened.
