1100 Nigerians killed, 276 abducted in June – Security Report
At least 1,100 Nigerians were killed and 276 others abducted in June 2025 by terrorists and other non-state actors across the country.
This was made known in a report by Beacon Security and Intelligence Limited.
The report, which tracks security trends nationwide, indicated a significant drop in overall security incidents compared to the previous month.
Security breaches declined by 48.04 percent, from 895 cases in May to 465 in June.
Fatalities also dropped by 14.27 percent, from 1,296 deaths in May to 1,111 in June.
A more substantial decline was recorded in the number of abductions, which fell by 74.59 percent, from 1,086 in May to 276 in June.
Despite the drop in figures, civilian deaths remained high, accounting for 72.37 percent (804 people) of all fatalities in June. The report identified farmer-herder clashes as a key driver of fatalities in the North-Central region.
The North-West recorded the highest number of abductions in June, accounting for 72.10 percent of all reported cases.
In its quarterly review, the report showed that overall security incidents in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025 declined slightly by 1.95 percent, from 2,359 in Q1 to 2,313 in Q2. However, fatalities rose by 5.66 percent, increasing from 3,301 in Q1 to 3,499 in Q2.
According to the report, the North-Central, North-West, and North-East regions recorded increases in fatalities of 34.97 percent, 5.36 percent, and 12.04 percent, respectively.
Abductions, however, decreased by 11.45 percent in Q2, with 2,540 cases reported, compared to 2,862 in Q1. All three northern regions saw reductions in kidnapping incidents during the period.
For the first half of 2025, Beacon Security and Intelligence documented 4,672 security incidents across Nigeria. This represents a 1.08 percent decrease compared to the second half (H2) of 2024, but a 9.21 percent increase compared to the first half (H1) of 2024.
A total of 6,800 fatalities were recorded in H1 2025, a 13.67 percent increase from H2 2024 and a 19.11 percent rise compared to H1 2024.
Zamfara State recorded the highest number of deaths, with 1,088 fatalities within the six-month period.
The state also had the highest number of abductions at 1,755, contributing to the national total of 5,402 abductions recorded in H1 2025. This figure reflects a 2.40 percent decline from H2 2024 but a significant 30.43 percent increase from H1 2024.
The report noted that the North-West and North-East regions continue to face sustained attacks from non-state armed groups, including insurgents and bandits.
It also highlighted growing insecurity in the North-Central zone, especially in Niger, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, where abductions, armed attacks, and raids on rural communities remain rampant.
