Cristian Romero has appeared to take aim at the Tottenham board on social media, following the club’s 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth.
Spurs lost late on at The Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night as Antoine Semenyo’s stoppage-time winner earned Bournemouth the points. The defeat was Tottenham’s eighth in the league this season and leaves the North London side 14th in the table. It follows last season’s Premier League record low of 17th under former manager Ange Postecoglou.
The summer appointment of Thomas Frank has done little to improve the club’s fortunes and Romero has appeared to take objection with the hierarchy.
On social media, the Argentine defender criticised the board for remaining quiet during the club’s struggles and only appearing ‘when things are going well, to tell a few lies.” Romero later deleted the addition of the ‘to tell a few lies’.
“Apologies to all fans of you who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be,” the post read.
“We are responsible, there’s no doubt about that. I am the first. But we will keep facing up to it and trying to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club.
“At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don’t – as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies.
“We’ll stay here, working, sticking together and giving our all to turn things around. Especially at times like this, keeping quiet, working harder and moving forward all together is part of football.
