Kieran Trippier has agreed to join Wolves on a free transfer following his departure from Newcastle United.
The move hands the former England right-back a fresh start and makes him Rob Edwards’ first summer signing. The 35-year-old has agreed a two-year deal, with the option of a further year.
Confirmation is now pending a medical, expected next week once Trippier returns from a family holiday. According to Sky Sports, Wolves fought off interest from several continental clubs to land him.

His Newcastle spell ends after four-and-a-half years at St James’ Park. In that time he made 160 appearances, scored four goals, and became a leader on and off the pitch. The high point came in 2025, when he helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup — their first major silverware since 1955.
There is real pedigree here. Trippier won La Liga with Atlético Madrid in 2020-21 and was a Champions League runner-up with Tottenham in 2019.
He also earned 54 England caps, scored in the 2018 World Cup semi-final, and started the Euro 2020 final before retiring from international football in 2024.
For Wolves, the signing fits a clear plan. The club are rebuilding after finishing bottom of the Premier League, where they won just three games and ended an eight-year stay in the top flight.
Their hierarchy has admitted the squad lacked experience and players who understood the club’s culture. Edwards sees Trippier as exactly the kind of leader to help guide a young group back up at the first attempt.
More movement is expected before then. Goalkeeper José Sá, forward Hwang Hee-chan and midfielder Ladislav Krejčí are all tipped to leave, with the club unable to register non-homegrown players until further departures go through. Mateus Mané, by contrast, is set to stay after a breakthrough season.
