Arsenal set for high-profile summer sale to fund transfer business

Arsenal will require the sale of a high-profile player in the summer to fund extensive transfer business.

The Gunners have spent heavily in recent seasons, and have the second-highest net spend in the Premier League over the last five campaigns, behind only Manchester United. This season, the North London side’s net spend of around £250m is the league’s largest.

Despite heading towards a successful season, Arsenal are set to need sales in order to finance big deals in the summer window.

According to The Telegraph, at least one ‘first-team player’ will leave the Emirates with club captain Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli candidates.

Odegaard has struggled to reach previous levels this season, scoring only once in the Premier League. Several sides are monitoring his situation, though Arsenal would demand a huge fee for the Norwegian.

Martinelli’s exit appears more likely, and feasible for interested clubs. The Brazilian was linked with the Saudi Pro League last summer and has suitors in Spain.

Arsenal are understood to be open to offers of around €65m (£56m) for the 24-year-old, who has started just nine times in the Premier League this season.

Despite limited involvement in league action, Martinelli has impressed in Europe. He’s scored six goals in just 382 minutes of Champions League football in 2025-26.
