Reactions as Mohbad’s widow, son receive singer’s posthumous award at 2025 Headies

Diverse reactions have trailed the moment Omowunmi, the widow of the late singer Mohbad and son, Liam received his posthumous award at the 2025 Headies.

DAILY POST reports that the singer was posthumously awarded the Best Street-Hop Artiste of the year for his hit song ‘Ask About Me’ and the Viewers’ Choice Award for his collaboration with Chike on the song ‘Egwu’.

Receiving the awards on behalf of the late singer, Omowunmi on Sunday during the 17th edition of Headies Awards event in Lagos, dedicated it to their son, Liam.

Explaining the reason for her action in a viral video on social media, she said; “Although Mohbad isn’t here with us anymore, he lives on. And I don’t like to address him as my late husband because he lives forever, especially through our son Liam.

“Liam may be too young to grasp the depth of his father’s greatness now but I believe that he will know one day. Thank you so much Headies for shining a light on my husband, for honouring his memory and legacy. It means so much to me, his son and the entire Imonelization”.

In the viral video, Omowunmi was accompanied by the late singer’s younger brother, Adura.
