‘Our government is respectful of intellectual property’: Ghanaian authorities respond to Bimbo Ademoye’s movie theft allegation

Ghanaian Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George and the Chief Executive Officer of the country’s National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, have assured Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Bimbo Ademoye of resolving the issues she raised about copyright violations against her movies in Ghana.

The actress had weeks ago taken to Instagram to call out Ghanaian TV stations for showing her movies without authorization.

Amplifying her complaint in a follow-up post on April 22, 2025, she tagged both Kafui Danku and Sam George, asking them to intervene.

She wrote, “@kafuidanku ma’am I hear you’re one of the people that can put a stop to this.”

Sam George and Kafui Danku have both now taken to the comment section of Ademoye’s post to respond to her.

On Sam George’s part, he told the actress he would raise her complaint with his “colleague minister’ while also assuring her that the Ghanaian government is committed to protecting intellectual properties.

He wrote, “My attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my colleague minister responsible for overseeing television content.

“I, however wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same. I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit.”

Kafui Danku, also in the comment section of the same post, told the actress that she is working alongside her management to put an end to the unauthorized broadcast of her movies in Ghana.

She added that the actress would start seeing ‘definite actions’ in a few weeks.

“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she wrote.

Ademoye’s new release, Broken Hallelujah, has received rave reviews on social media.
