It will help reduce kidnapping – Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie advocates cashless policy

Popular Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie, has publicly appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revive the cashless policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, years ago.

In a post shared on Instagram, the actor highlighted the benefits of the policy, citing the positive impact on the nation’s economy and security.

According to Edochie, the cashless policy significantly boosted the value of the Nigerian currency. He emphasised that the cashless system limited the access to physical cash, thereby reducing kidnapping incidents.

He wrote, “To my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy. When it was introduced by the previous administration, it increased the value of the naira tremendously. It helped to bring down prices of goods and it made 5 naira, 10, 20 and 50 naira notes regain value. The cashless policy also helped to reduce kidnapping massively. Consider it again Sir. Thank you, Your Excellency.”

The actor’s appeal has sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians weighing the benefits and challenges of reinstating the cashless policy amid the ongoing economic pressure.
