Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ receives platinum certification in the UK
Afrobeats superstar Ayra Starr has achieved another landmark feat after her hit single received a UK platinum plaque.
The song, released in September 2022, has enjoyed commercial success in the United Kingdom, where Ayra Starr became the first Nigerian female artist to debut a solo track on the UK Official Top 100.
With her latest platinum plaque, the Grammy-nominated singer adds to the certifications received by the song, which is one of the Afrobeats tracks to have received a Diamond certification in France.
2025 has gotten off to a busy start for the singer, who was one of the stars who graced the celebrated MET Gala.
Ayra Starr also recently released a new song titled ‘Gimme Dat’ featuring Grammy-winning megastar Wizkid.
The single, released on April 25, 2025, samples Wyclef Jean‘s classic records ‘Diallo’ and ‘911’ featuring Mary J Blige.
‘Gimme Dat’ is the second collaboration between both stars after Ayra Starr appeared on ‘2 Sugar’ off Wizkid’s fifth ‘More Love, Less Ego’.
The Grammy nominee led 30 Nigerian songs connecting with global audiences thanks to her appearance on Rvssian‘s hit record ‘Santa’, which also appears on her sophomore album ‘The Year I Turned 21’.
Her sophomore album enjoyed commercial success with notable records like ‘Woman Commando’ featuring Coco Jones and Aniita and her hit single ‘Commas’.
It also contributed to her history-making MOBO win earlier in 2025, which further emphasised her status as one of Africa’s biggest global exports.
Ayra Starr also added to her Headies collection at the 17th Headies, where she won the prize for Best R&B single for her song ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ featuring Giveon.
