Arsenal confirm Martin Odegaard injury blow

Arsenal have confirmed that Martin Odegaard has sustained a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee during Saturday’s win over West Ham.

Odegaard was substituted during the first half of the club’s 2-0 win over their London rivals at the Emirates.

It continued a tough start to the season for the Norwegian midfielder, who on Saturday became the first player in Premier League history to be substituted before half time in three consecutive league starts.

Odegaard’s ongoing fitness issues have been a problem for the Gunners, who have now revealed the club captain will miss the upcoming international break. Norway face Israel in a crucial World Cup qualifier on October 11th.

On Odegaard’s injury, a club statement said: “Martin Odegaard has been withdrawn from the Norway national team for their upcoming matches against Israel and New Zealand after sustaining a medial collateral ligament injury to his left knee during the first half in Saturday’s win over West Ham United.

“Martin will continue to be assessed and treated by our medical team at Sobha Realty Training Centre during the international window, with the aim of a return to action as soon as possible.”
