Security sources on Monday confirmed that Boko Haram insurgents attacked residents of Kirawa in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident occurred late Saturday and reportedly resulted in the abduction of a girl, Aisha Muhammad.

The attackers also set houses, vehicles, and shops ablaze.

According to earlier reports, the terrorists killed several soldiers and displaced them from their camp after an intense gun battle with the Multi Joint Task Force (MJTF).

A security operative, who spoke to THE WHISTLER on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack but could not confirm the number of soldiers killed.

He explained that some soldiers sustained injuries and were forced to leave their base.

The source said, “There was an attack in Kirawa, and residents had to flee for their lives.

“That attack led to the abduction of a schoolgirl, Aisha Muhammad, and she hasn’t been rescued.

“The town shares a boundary with Cameroon, and some people have not returned home.”

Punch had quoted sources as saying the assailants “killed soldiers and kidnapped a junior secondary school girl.”

Addressing the claims, the source told THE WHISTLER, “Soldiers were taken unaware, the reason why they had to flee their camp, at the moment there are no records of casualties on the soldiers, but some sustained various degrees of injuries.”

When contacted, the Army Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, directed THE WHISTLER to Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai.

Kovangiya neither answered calls nor responded to messages at the time of filing this report.
