Lagos taskforce impound 55 vehicles, clears illegal parking hub in Agege

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has carried out a large-scale clearance operation around the Agege under-bridge, impounding 55 commercial vehicles for illegal parking and obstruction.

The operation, led by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, specifically targeted Danfo buses, Korope minibuses and Keke Marwa tricycles that had converted the Agege roundabout on Ogba Road into an unauthorized motor park.

Following weeks of surveillance and intelligence reports gathered through the agency’s “See Something, Say Something” platform, enforcement teams extended the clean-up to Ogba, Iju and Ishaga corridors, areas that have been plagued by chronic gridlock.

CSP Akerele expressed concern over the persistent lawlessness of commercial drivers, noting that much of Lagos’ traffic congestion is self-inflicted.

“Traffic gridlock in these areas is largely man-made. This operation is a clear signal that we will no longer tolerate indiscipline on our roads,” he said.

He described the operation as a turning point in the state’s traffic management strategy, aimed at reducing travel time, improving public safety and ensuring strict adherence to road laws.

The Taskforce reiterated that similar clampdowns will be sustained across Lagos to dismantle illegal motor parks and restore order on key routes.
