The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State chapter has called off their indefinite strike.

The association had begun the strike on Thursday to press the release of its kidnapped member, Stephen Ezeh, an Ihiala-based private medical practitioner and called off he strike in Sunday.

The association, in a release, said the decision to call off the strike followed Ezeh’s release on Saturday. The group therefore directed its members to resume clinical services to the public at their various establishments on Sunday.

The statement read, “The total and indefinite strike called by the NMA Anambra Branch to protest the kidnap of our member, Dr Stephen Ezeh, is hereby called off following his release. Clinical services resume 08:00 hours Sunday Aug 25.”

The group appreciated residents of the state for their understanding, adding that, “We appreciate our colleagues for their solidarity and doggedness in the face of the challenges facing the sector, especially insecurity and urge them to remain resolute and committed towards delivering healthcare to Anambra people.”

The association urged Gov Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security in Anambra.
