NNPCL’s Petrol Surpasses Industry Standard, Says PETROAN
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has affirmed that premium motor spirit (PMS) supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited meets the highest industry standards.
PETROAN’s spokesperson, Joseph Obele, made this known in response to claims suggesting that petrol supplied by MRS Oil lasts longer than that of NNPCL.
The assertion, which gained traction through a viral video, had been refuted by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, who described it as misleading and baseless.
Obele stated that PETROAN conducted an independent analysis of NNPCL’s petroleum products and found the allegations to be misleading. He emphasized that Dangote Refinery’s PMS durability does not surpass that of NNPCL.
“As part of its oversight function in the Nigerian petroleum industry, PETROAN engaged independent standard laboratories to test and verify the quality of petroleum products before lifting them from any depot or refinery,” he said.
The association detailed its rigorous testing process, which includes flash point, density, viscosity, sulfur content, water content, and ash content analysis.
“Our comprehensive tests include flash point, density, viscosity, sulfur content, water content, and ash content tests,” Obele said.
“The results of these tests are satisfactory, demonstrating that NNPCL’s petroleum products meet and exceed the required industry standards.”
He further outlined the specific findings of the tests, highlighting that NNPCL’s fuel exceeded regulatory requirements in all key parameters.
Obele urged the public to disregard misleading claims and rely on verified sources for accurate information. He stressed the importance of fact-checking to prevent the spread of misinformation that could destabilize the economy.
PETROAN’s president, Billy Gillis-Harry, also called on content creators to be responsible when sharing information about the petroleum industry.
“We urge content creators not to joke with sensitive matters that have the capacity to collapse the economy,” he said.
PETROAN reaffirmed its commitment to fostering healthy competition within the industry, encouraging oil marketers to invest in product improvement, research, and customer satisfaction.
